Bogor Zoology Museum is the largest museum in Southeast Asia that display collection of preserved fauna specimen. It is located to the next of the main entrance of the Bogor Botanical Garden.
Bogor Zoology Museum was founded by Dr. J.C. Koningsberger in August 1894, it was originally used as a small laboratory at the corner of the Bogor Botanical Garden (formerly known as Lands Plantentuin). It has 1,500 square meter in space and contain one of the most extensive fauna collection in Asia. There are 24 rooms in the museum and the temperature is set on 22 degree celsius due to safety of the collections.
Museum collection include fossilized and preserved animals, such as:
- Insects - 12,000 species and 2,580,000 specimens
- Mammals - 650 species and 30,000 specimens
- Poultry - 1,000 species and 30,762 specimens
- Reptile and Amphibian - 763 species and 19,937 specimens
- Mollusks - 959 species and 13,146 specimens
- Invertebrates - 700 species and 15,558 specimens
You may also find a skeleton of blue whale here, which is the biggest of its kind in Indonesia.
